Product Marketing Manager

A brand new opportunity has come up at Simply Business. We’re looking for a product marketing specialist with strong interests and capabilities in understanding customer and business needs and using that understanding to drive successful products.

We ask for good experience in related product and marketing disciplines. However we believe that years of experience don’t necessarily mean we’ve found the right person. This role is much more nuanced than that – we’ll be asking you to lead collaboration, champion product and business needs and drive growth across the products. Experience is great but flexibility and initiative is better.

You can deliver great work from our offices in the heart of buzzing EC2, London, with the Barbican,
Silicon Roundabout and Hoxton just around the corner.

Insurance might sound a bit boring but we do it differently – hence the need for a brilliant new Product Marketing Manager. Added to that, we concentrate on SMEs – a fast-growing, vibrant and energetic sector. Working for and with 4.8 million microbusinesses and sole traders is what gets us out of bed in the morning. The role in a nutshell:

• Leading an understanding of the market opportunity and competition
• Creating and executing a scalable customer acquisition strategy by testing multiple approaches and tracking to improve the right metrics
• Developing positioning, messaging, competitive differentiation and go-to-market strategies, with a focus on creating compelling marketing stories
• Working with the marketing channel owners on campaigns to maximise the product’s exposure to the target market, increase traffic to the website and generate leads in order to meet expected revenue targets and improved ROI (events, associations, email marketing, content marketing, DM, landing pages, PPC, social)
• Ensuring renewal communications and strategies improve customer retention and loyalty
• Working with the insurance product, underwriting and pricing teams to market new products or product variations, market segments, verticals and geographies and creating new packages in order to incentivise customers to stay with the business
• Creating, prioritising and delivering a roadmap of product improvements that meet customer and business needs
• Working with our UX specialist to understand customer needs and behaviours
• Working with colleagues from across the business to define feature specifications (e.g. online initiatives)
• Operational involvement in delivering product benefits, coordinating through with our Northampton contact centre
• Reviewing performance of product forecast, marketing ROI and adjust strategy when necessary


Fancy it? You’ll need to be:

• Passionate about driving a deep understanding of the customer and the business, and champion products that meet both needs.
• Able to show, not tell. You know the road to making a great product, but more importantly you want to show everyone how great your product is and how it solves their problems.
• The subject matter expert on the product in the sense of what it is for, what problems does it solve, and the market it is in. You’ll take on the Product Owner role.
• Business-minded. You have a good understanding of business principles and terminology.
• An aspiring analyst. You have some experience with analytics platforms, and know to look past the vanity metrics to gauge a product’s success.
• A people person. You love product because it gives you an opportunity to communicate with lots of different people with different backgrounds.
• A leader and collaborator. You bring people from across the business together to create effective products and campaigns

Skills and experience

• Experience in working with a collaborative, cross-skilled team
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Proven success with CRO
• Knowledge of behavioural targeting, marketing optimisation and advanced modelling
