at Linkilaw in London
This is an opportunity to fit into a small but thriving startup, Linkilaw, as a legal intern. This internship may lead to a full time job offer
Length of Internship: 2-9 months.
Linkilaw is the Legal Platform For Startups! We have two services: (1) providing legal advice and assistance for small and medium sized companies; (2) matching individuals with the right lawyer to meet their legal needs. We embrace technology to streamline the legal process, to make it more affordable, and to make it easier to access. And we do so on the basis of two key themes: transparency and client care.
As a legal intern, you will join a small team of legal trainees and practitioners. You will, from the first day, be dealing with clients and speaking to them about their legal queries. You will be the liaison between these clients and their lawyers, relaying on their details, discussing their cases, and acting as their first port of call.
While the majority of the work will involve company law for startups and SMEs, you will be exposed to sensitive cases in immigration, personal injury, family disputes and complex intellectual property, to name a few.
You will gain experience drafting commercial contracts, will participate in on-the-job training, and will be assisting with Startup Legal Sessions – free legal consultations with early stage companies – providing analysis and feedback after these.
You will also be attending events, writing blogs, and may from time-to-time be required to assist in other parts of the business, such as marketing.
Skills and characteristics:
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and approachable and will enjoy working in a fast-paced and vibrant setting. Legal knowledge is preferable, but not essential, and it will not govern your success on the job. Legal interest, however, is a must!
Key characteristics are as follows:
Organisation: with a large number of clients to handle, the role will require excellent organisational skills. You will be expected to keep track of your dealings with clients, to take notes where appropriate, and to stick to strict timelines.
Attention to detail: in speaking to clients, in drafting contracts, and in conducting research, attention to detail is key. You will be required to spot the small details that may affect a case, or strengthen a contract.
Communication: we are a small team with a high workload and intra-company communication is central to how we work. As Legal Intern, you will be communicating with our lawyers, our marketers and our managers and you will be required to keep them on top of what is happening in the legal department!
Ability to engage: due to the sensitivity of some of the issues that come before us, our best results emerge when we build personal relationships with our clients.
Sales: you will be making calls every day and will be pitching Linkilaw to prospective clients. As a young company, every one of your sales will have a tangible impact on our success.
