Brompton Bike Hire is a wholly owned company of Brompton Bicycle Ltd (Brompton), the iconic British folding bike company. Brompton Bike Hire uses the Brompton folding bike within its hire scheme. Bikes are stored in lockers within custom designed docks that are accessed via your mobile phone with reservations placed online or via the app. Bikes are hired for the day (24 hrs) or more, from over 40 locations.

The Role

Brompton has recently reviewed its bike hire operations resulting in the need to recruit someone to lead the business to its next phase of growth. Based at the Brompton factory and head office in Greenford, west London, your role will be to manage, inspire and grow a small Brompton Bike Hire team whilst being supported by the parent company’s in-house finance, technology and marketing departments.

Brompton Bike Hire also handles the majority of Brompton’s business-to-business bike sales, normally for pool bike schemes, which alongside the hire business will form a key part of your role to develop.

As part of a change in strategy for the business to accelerate growth, Brompton is looking to raise external funding for Brompton Bike Hire in the New Year to bring in its first external partners, further raise awareness of Brompton Bike Hire through the process and spearhead a new growth plan. You will obviously play a key role in this process as well as in implementing new strategy post fundraising.

Candidate Requirements

Reporting to the Brompton CEO, we are looking for someone with:

• A driven, hands on, roll up the sleeves and get stuck in attitude
• Commercial mind set with a proven sales/business development/customer acquisition track record, working within similar routes to market
• Lead by example at every stage of the sales pipeline, be an implementer, completer finisher with good attention to detail
• Entrepreneurial ideas person, ideally with an MBA
• Experience with technology enabled businesses and comfortable with ensuring continued development of technology
• Strong customer service focus preferably with experience in the B2C service sector
• Financially aware with proven ability at effectively managing cashflow, revenue, costs and financing
• Has previously played a role in business financing, ideally with some investor management experience
• We value initiative but also need you to be a problem solver and lateral thinker
• Experience helping to build and maintain a strong brand
• Experience in corporate development and strategy as well as building key relationships in relevant fields in order to create and win new business contracts
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, coaching and motivational skills, excited to take a leadership role
• Generally interested in cycling and making the world a better, healthier place
• Early stage SME experience would be useful
