Whilst shipping goods by sea, air & truck is a complex trillion dollar industry, you might be surprised to know that many of the processes that could be simplified with technology are currently done over the phone, by fax and email or even jotted down on scraps of paper.


Zencargo is a digital first freight forwarder & logistics provider, simplifying global trade. Our platform allows customers to book, manage and keep track of their international freight as well as use analytics to drive intelligent supply chain decisions that help their businesses thrive.


Founding team


Jan Riethmayer, our CTO has a background in information retrieval and machine learning. Previously co-founder & CTO of an international loyalty platform (raised $9m). Jan is a Rubyist with commercial experience in Java, Elixir, React and R.


Our CEO, Alex Hersham, mostly recently spent 4 years building an international shipping and logistics platform at one of the largest Private Equity businesses in the world. Prior to the, he started his career at Goldman Sachs


Richard Fattal, our CMO has a background in finance (@morganstanley) and helped building an agricultural commodities business in West & Central Africa, exporting single origin chocolate to Europe (experiencing logistical nightmares first hand). Richard was head of growth at Grokker (raised $25m).

Your responsibilities


  • write simple, maintainable ruby code which delivers business value
  • write tests with RSpec and Capybara
  • improve internal tooling (e.g. continuous delivery, monitoring)
  • evangelise best practices
  • choosing the right tool for the job

You must have


  • strong communication skills, verbally and in written form (English)
  • excellent knowledge of Ruby on Rails, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, Unix, deployment, performance, debugging, refactoring, design patterns, and other programming practices
  • insatiable interest in technology (e.g. experience with Go, Elixir, React, Vue)
  • a good understanding of your tools (editor, git, command line, AWS, etc.)
  • permission to work in London (in our office)

It would be nice if you’d have


  • an understanding of SOLID design principles
  • experience with DDD and event sourcing (e.g. Aggregate Root, CQRS, etc)
  • you’re able to make minor changes to frontend code
  • Interest in learning GO
  • Interest in Serverless architecture
  • a commercial mindset
