Job Overview
Responsible for championing & monitoring of safety, environmental & security activities to ensure compliance with UK legislative requirements & to advise management on safety, environmental & security best practice.
What you’ll do (job tasks and responsibilities)
Safety
- Create and maintain a vibrant health & safety culture.
- Mentor & support departmental safety & environmental activities.
- Chair monthly H&S meeting.
- Support departmental management in the development of risk assessments & safe systems of work.
- Support departmental management in the investigation of accidents & incidents.
- Review accident investigation submissions for adequacy & accuracy.
- Review accidents & decide whether they require submission to the HSE under the RIDDOR regulations.
- Run training on Accident Investigation
- Liaise with the companies’ insurers & their agents in matters pertaining to health & safety.
- Liaise with External Agencies as required.
- Conduct routine reviews of training requirements across site to ensure the site and staff are operating in a safe and responsible manner.
- Liaise with the Training Team to ensure SOPs are in line with RAs.
- Regular review of site fabric/structure with engineering to ensure safety and compliance, lead appropriate action where appropriate.
- Assist people operations and management in individual assessments of staff with short & long term medical conditions.
- Develop site emergency plan.
- Ensure regulatory and ACOP compliance in all areas e.g. PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, PSSR, Asbestos and Legionella/L8.
- Maintain and publish a calendar of key safety activities and regulatory inspection dates.
- Keep abreast of developments and legislative changes through Continuous Personal Development.
Environment
- Source & arrange environmental training.
- Monitor compliance against ISO14001.
- Ensure the Spalding site is aligned with the Gousto environmental agenda.
- Management of waste and recycling providers.
- Maintain and publish a calendar of key environmental activities and regulatory inspection dates.
- Keep abreast of developments and legislative changes through Continuous Personal Development.
Decision Authority
- Purchasing from approved suppliers items & services related to safety, environment or security.
- Attendance at meetings off site associated with Environment. Security, Safety or First Aid

Skills, knowledge and abilities required to be effective in this position
- Flexible approach to work, able to manage own priorities and workload
- Able to effectively influence team
- Excellent communication and influencing skills - result orientated and tenacious
- An in-depth understanding of essential/relevant EU & UK H&S legislation
- Demonstrable record of driving significant change through an operation
- Excellent I.T. skills with experience of google packages
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to interact at all levels.
Qualifications required
- Must hold NEBOSH Certificate
- Desirable to have or be working towards NEBOSH Diploma
- Must have IOSH Environmental Certificate
