 Applications are invited for a Product Designer to join this exciting science-based business which is quickly expanding from start-up to scale-up. The successful candidate will work closely with the Product, Data, and Business Development teams to develop and deliver new user experiences using species detections from environmental DNA. These products will offer new insights on biodiversity and leverage the big data potential of DNA-based biomonitoring to enable better decision-making for nature.  Applicants should have significant experience with UX/UI design for B2B products. They must be comfortable working with stakeholders to collect information and drive the UX/UI for concept to delivery. They should also be familiar with Agile development methodologies. 

 

The successful applicant will be comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team. They will be required to lead on the design of the user experience of new products in close collaboration with the Head of Data, Head of Product, Business Development team and advisors.

Roles & responsibilities 

General 

  • You are passionate about nature and having a positive impact on the planet. 
  • Work directly with project stakeholders to collect information and drive the UX/UI from concept to delivery. 
  • Conduct independent research and market analysis to balance stakeholder perspectives. 
  • Partner with your Product Owner and Data team members to develop a customer-centric point of view for the product 
  • Express design intent with high-quality mock-ups and clickable prototypes that embody the end-to-end user journey from discovery to launch, and beyond. 
  • Advocate for the user experience, field questions, and make adjustments as you work through implementation 
  • Ensure the final result provides the intended value to stakeholders by studying user behaviour and working through areas of friction 
  • Provide visual design support to wider company as required. 

Reporting 

  • This role reports to the Head of Data 

Communication  

  • Attend regular update meetings with the wider team 
  • Update wider company, management or board on progress as required 
  • Work collaboratively with the Data and Product teams. 

Person Specification 

Education & qualifications 

  • Degree educated or equivalent experience. 

Specialist knowledge, skills & experience 

  • 4-8 years’ experience working as a Product Designer, User Experience (UX) Designer, or similar role (please provide your design portfolio) 
  • Multi-channel product design experience 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of UX & UI design processes and methodologies 
  • Deep knowledge of user experience research and market analysis frameworks for B2B products 
  • Understanding of how to evaluate and interpret user research findings to wireframe and prototype solutions 
  • Experience wireframing and designing in Figma, or similar application 
  • Excellent eye for design aesthetic and latest design trends in scientific industries 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills 

Interpersonal & communication skills 

  • Organised & meticulous with effective communication skills. 
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Energising and engaging within multidisciplinary teams. 

Additional requirements

 Terms and Conditions 

Location 

  • The post is currently based at NatureMetrics Ltd, CABI Site, Bakeham Lane, Egham, Surrey, TW20 9TY but the company will be relocating to Guildford later this year. 
  • There is significant flexibility for regular home working. 
  • Applications for remote working will be considered. 

Working pattern and hours 

  • The post is advertised at 40 hours a week Monday to Friday however part time/contract applicants would also be considered. 
  • Core hours are between 10am and 4pm.
