FundApps is a SaaS scaleup that helps investment managers and banks monitor and comply with worldwide regulations. We were one of the world's first "RegTechs" and we're shaking up an entire industry. Our clients love what we do (Net Promoter Scores of over 50) and this has led to phenomenal and consistent revenue growth.

Everyday, our service monitors a collective US$14 trillion in assets under management on behalf of clients ranging from US$50 million Hedge Funds to the largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world.

We are a growing team of FundAppers with 80 people and over 30 nationalities at last count. We have offices in London, New York and Singapore and remote employees spread across the globe. In 2018, we became a Certified B Corporation and in 2019 were recognised as a B Corp 'Best for the World' Honoree - highlighting our commitment to doing good by our people, the environment and the community.

Earlier in 2021, Scottish Equity Partners completed a significant growth equity investment in FundApps, becoming a long term partner to drive continued product innovation and support further expansion of our international client base.

The role

As we continue to grow our team and client base across the globe, we are introducing our first in-house Legal Counsel role to provide commercial and legal expertise to our revenue, technology, client and operations teams.

Reporting to the COO, you’ll be excited by the opportunity to get stuck in across a full breadth of B2B legal and contractual areas. We are big believers in the value of simplicity, so you’ll be a natural at distilling complex areas of law into practical steps and recommendations that support our vision and mission. Most importantly, as our sole in-house Legal Counsel, you’ll feel at home working with autonomy across internal teams and with external clients and prospects at all levels.

What you'll be working on

  • Partner with Sales teams across all stages of the B2B contract lifecycle, including new client RFPs and agreements, contract deviations, NDAs, renewals and terminations.

  • Shape our global growth and legal entity structure as we expand into new regions - We are currently headquartered in the UK with a subsidiary in the US, and considering our plans for the EU and APAC.

  • Work with our security, operations, client services and marketing teams to support our approach to data protection, GDPR compliance and intellectual property.

  • Ensure that we maintain robust systems and practices relating to our governance and compliance duties across the company.

  • Provide advice and expertise on our global employment structures, tax & social security obligations, immigration, permanent establishment and employee incentive plans.

  • Provide oversight and expertise on our employment contracts, third party vendor and service contracts and relevant IR35 determinations.

  • Maintain connections with external counsel and legal networks for specialist advice and to stay up to date with regulatory changes that affect us.

What you'll bring to the team

  • A qualified lawyer with 4+ years of experience in corporate transaction, technology and/or commercial law either in-house or at a law firm.

  • Demonstrable experience of providing legal support across B2B, enterprise and technology contracts, including client negotiations.

  • Comfort shifting between areas requiring strategic advice across a longer time horizon, to operational work where we just need to GSD.

  • A knack for communicating complex areas of law in a way that is simple and precise.

  • A pragmatic approach to assessing legal risk and a commercial mindset when providing advice and recommendations.

  • A natural ability to manage and prioritise projects across multiple teams.

  • We take our work and our clients very seriously, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously, so we welcome your best legal puns and memes!

Bonus Points

  • In-house experience in a high-growth SaaS business.

  • Cross-border international experience, particularly in the US.

NOTE: Covid-19 has taken us out of our offices, so we'll be running our recruitment process virtually. We also believe that the key to true flexible working is choice, so if you are not based in London but interested in working remotely from elsewhere in the UK, we'd love to chat with you!
