This is an opportunity to work on difficult, groundbreaking technology with an immensely talented team solving systemic sustainability problems. Comes with a generous options package and a competitive salary.
We're looking for an ambitious, motivated, intelligent and pragmatic developer who is also passionate about human rights, the environment and making a difference. Your role will be to deploy and scale our core model. Your work will be central to our product and the role is expected to grow with the company. The role is the perfect example of a pure startup back end design and development role. Your main work will be an intellectual programming challenge - developing an efficient system for estimating billions of data points based on our analysts' research. You'll be working closely with our CTO, and will have another back-end engineer working with you focusing on a slightly more pragmatic, devops-heavy role, as well as a front-end developer, a designer and outsourced testing.
Whilst we run a professional team with plenty of support, we’re a small company and you'll be building production code in use across our clients, so you'll be responsible for deploying and maintaining your own work, ensuring complete test coverage and optimising code performance.
4+ years of full stack or back-end engineering experience (Python preferred)
a strong desire to learn new things, solve problems and leave everything you encounter better than you found it
a solid understanding of basic statistics
extensive practical experience with sql databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
a deep understanding of rigorous software design principles - you should be clear on the value of type hinting and testing, be able to discuss various design approaches for a problem using object oriented patterns, and have some familiarity with dataflow and reactive programing. You do not need commercial experience in these areas.
practical experience with Git and CI/CD
Nice to haves
experience with containers (docker, k8s etc)
experience with AWS including EC2, Lambda, RDS
a maths or computer science degree from a top-tier university
salary of £50-75k dependent on experience (or cost-of-living adjusted equivalent for non-UK residents)
generous equity options
generous hardware budget on joining
flexible hours with the opportunity to mix working in our beautiful riverside office (if you’re in the UK, or your choice of co-working space if you’re not) and WFH
a wonderful team that make coming to work a joy
a mission that will get you out of bed every morning knowing you're doing good in the world
