    MiiCare are taking part in the UK Government’s Kickstart Scheme which is part of the Chancellor’s plan for jobs. The scheme offers young people, who are at risk of long-term unemployment, the opportunity to take part in a work placement where they will develop new skills to enable them to move into sustained employment at the end of the programme.

    To apply for a Kickstart role with MiiCare you must:

    • Have been referred by your Job Centre Plus Work Coach.
    • Be aged 16-24 years old and in receipt of Universal Credit.
    • Be able to work for 25 hours per week.

    Our Kickstart role is an exciting opportunity comprising of a 6-month paid work placement with MiiCare, which will give you an opportunity to apply your ‘can do’ attitude whilst developing your timekeeping, communication, organisational and team working skills.

     

    The role

    MiiCare are looking for a Quality Assurance (QA)/testing engineer to help develop and execute exploratory and automated tests to ensure product quality and to thoroughly inspect our products before they’re launched.

    QA/testing engineer responsibilities include designing and implementing tests, debugging, and defining corrective actions. You will work closely with the production team to understand why we’re building a product and what the specific requirements are. Then, you will run a series of tests through all stages of production to identify potential malfunctions and recommend improvements.

    The QA/testing engineer role will play an important part in our company’s product development process. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting tests before product launches to ensure software runs smoothly and meets client needs, while being cost-effective. If you have an engineering background and enjoy providing end-to-end solutions to software/hardware quality problems, we’d like to meet you.

    Ultimately, you will monitor all stages of software development to identify and resolve system malfunctions to ensure our final products meet our safety and quality standards.

    In addition to learning the skills to fulfil the technical aspects of the role, you will develop various skills such as: working in a start-up environment, agile working, collaborative delivery to customers, how to create trust with customer as part of business engagement. As we are a small company, you will have the opportunity to learn and experience many aspects of business and marketing and work closely with other departments.

    In addition, MiiCare is a social enterprise supporting a great cause by offering technology that helps elderly people.

    This position is currently home-based as we are working remotely. We have plans to reopen the office later in the year, depending on government guidance and will be offering flexible working options.

     

    Essential skills, experience and qualifications

     

    • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject
    • Experience in software quality assurance, as a testing engineer or similar role and some experience in testing cloud solutions and mobile applications
    • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process would be an advantage
    • Familiarity with various testing techniques is important to the role
    • Experience with networking, operating systems (Win/Linux), Azure cloud platform, IoT devices will be an advantage
    • General IT skills will be advantageous
    • Organisation and structure in work is important. Ability to document and work in an organised way is important for the role
    • Understanding hardware and embedded systems is an advantage

     

    Employability support

    The candidate will be provided with a robust induction which includes clear explanation of the role they are employed in, an overview of what support they can expect and what expectations there are of their basic work skills.

    The candidate will be directly line managed by the CTO who will be responsible for setting clear expectations with regards to attendance, timekeeping and general employability skills. This line manager will meet regularly with the young person providing them with support and feedback with regards to their performance. This support will be provided throughout the job placement.

    Additionally, MiiCare’s Kickstart gateway will ensure support for long term employability of young people through Kickstart Scheme job placements and would help in developing their skills in terms of attendance, timekeeping, communication, teamwork and travelling to work. Training and mentoring sessions would be provided by professional business leaders and trainers covering all the topics from general to specific business related as well.

    We will ensure that we are equipped enough to provide all the above-mentioned facilities to the young people and help them develop all the necessary skill set. We have also made arrangements for providing the candidates sufficient online courses and in-person training which will help them in developing their skills and be job ready.
