Technology Team at Bloom & Wild

The overall Bloom & Wild team is now over 300 people. Our Engineering function is structured as a set of core squads, each consisting of a small, close-knit team of developers, a product manager and a tester. Squads work closely with their Business counterpart team on solutions that accelerate growth both within and outside our UK core business. Alongside Engineering, we also have the Platform Operations function, which consists of the Platform and I.T. Teams, who are responsible for safely scaling our technical operations and infrastructure as the business grows.

The role and ways of working

As a Delivery Manager within the Technology team, you will work closely with our engineering squads, taking projects from inception through to production and beyond.

You will be involved in all areas of project delivery; defining business requirements, helping to shape and lead the project backlog and timelines, monitoring project progress, planning releases, learning from mistakes and celebrating successes.

You will need to be comfortable collaborating closely with stakeholders, justify decisions with cogent reasoning, as well as presenting project statuses and changes to the wider business.

Role responsibilities:

  • Alongside Product Owners and Engineering Managers, help the squads translate business requirements into well defined product backlogs and help plan achievable deliverables.
  • Provide delivery focused support and improvement for a small number of closely related teams.
  • Challenge requirements or existing processes and practices where appropriate
  • Provide servant leadership to one or more related squads
  • Quickly identify and work to unblock squads when they hit blockers and impediments

You

  • Experience and expertise in Delivery Management and a proven track record of improving delivery across multiple teams.
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders from CTO, CPO, Heads, Engineering/Product Managers and engineers in teams.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring Engineering Managers, Product Managers, team members and others to apply the most appropriate agile and lean tools and techniques.
  • Familiar with project estimation and forecasting and have previously worked alongside Tech leadership groups to develop realistic roadmaps.
  • Familiar with Agile ceremonies / events and can lead them if required.
  • Happy to work with multiple teams, as opposed to one single team
  • Successfully introduced new initiatives and improvements within teams, which have persisted once you have subsequently moved onto the next team/project.

Nice to have

  • Certified Scrum Master training or equivalent
  • Experience working in an Ecommerce and/or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with I.T. and/or Platform infrastructure teams

Our new normal

The last year has proven that our team can embrace remote work extremely successfully and whilst recognising that some of our team will still prefer to work in our office, our plan moving forward is to find ways of continuing to incorporate remote work into our ways of working.

Currently the majority of our team are still working from home. However, in line with government restrictions we are gradually able to open up our offices again. For those that do want to return either some or all of the time to our office, the safety and wellbeing of our team is our primary priority and our return to our beautiful, flower filled office will be gradual, considered and only when our team feels safe to do so.

  • We do not plan to fully open the office back up until the end of September, to ensure the office feels as safe as possible for those that are using it.
  • From September, we will continue not to expect people to come in as a norm, but managers may ask team members to come in for specific reasons with plenty of notice (unless you are a fully remote team member).
  • After the end of September, the office will be open fully for people to use as much or as little as they’d like.
  • We have no expectation that team members will need to come into the office 5 days a week again!

Our Recruitment Process

Given the current situation in the UK due to COVID-19 the interview process will be conducted remotely. This will involve an initial interview with our Talent Partner - Safa, followed by the hiring manager call with our Head of Platform Operations - Joe, a technical interview with our Lead Platform Developer - Bernat and our IT Systems Manager Andrei, the culture interview with VP of Engineering - Steve and the final interview with our CEO Aron.
