    Kugali is an entertainment company focused on telling stories inspired by African Culture using comic books, art and augmented reality, remaining on the cutting edge of storytelling experiences and leading the way with AR, 3D CGI, the development of Bonzo (African comic books) and more.

     

    An exciting opportunity has now arisen in our Marketing department for an enthusiastic and passionate person looking to step into the role of PR & Publishing Marketing Lead.  Working closely with the CMO, the individual will help to develop, implement, and deliver a multimedia PR and Publishing strategy against a set of ambitious objectives, that will harness, focus and create innovative ways to tell our stories and engage with our local and global audiences to ultimately raise positive awareness of Kugali and its people.

     

     This role would suit someone comfortable working in a fully remote environment.

     

    Role and Responsibilities 

    • Perform and manage high-level public relations work, with ownership of press releases, interviews, opportunities and outreach.  
    • Lead on marketing for the publishing wing, meet specific sales goals and report on gains; elevate the reach of the company’s publishing wing, and develop new ways to access existing and burgeoning audiences for our products. 
    • Assist in the day-to-day operations of a marketing team, including but not limited to performing market research, overseeing and executing sales and social campaigns, working with Kickstarter projects. Will occasionally lead meetings. 
    • Maintaining the ability to run the department in the absence of the CMO; become a reliable second-in-command during crunch periods, with the ability to follow company and department guidelines while making executive decisions where required. 

    Qualifications and Education Requirements 

    • University degree or similar 
    • At least 3 years’ experience in the publishing industry 

    Preferred Skills 

    • Experience on or leading teams within the publishing space; knowledge of the publishing industry essential. Experience working with African publishers, writers or bookshops preferred. 
    • Excellent command of English Language 
    • Experience with crowdfunding preferred but not essential 
    • Analytical mind, out-of-the-box thinking and appetite for development; ‘start-up mindset’. 
    • Works well under pressure; we’re a small team, and a lot of work will carry a high degree of responsibility.  
    • Self-starter, capable of managing own time and capable of leading when necessary 

    Additional Notes 

    • Must be passionate, above all else. Excitement about what you’re doing must be a standard. 
    • Familiarity with pan-African or country-specific African cultures a bonus. 
    • Happy with being on-camera for public audiences ideal, but not essential.  
    • Must like comics! 

    Part-time - 4 days a week

    Salary £27,500 pro-rata

    Remote

    36 days holiday (including UK bank holidays)

    Extra paid days off on companywide breaks mid year and at Christmas

    Regional co-working days
