The Opportunity

We are looking for a Junior R&D scientist to join our growing team based at our R&D lab in Oxford! In this role you will have a chance to progress and grow within a fast-paced and ambitious biotech company, enhance your skills in advanced molecular techniques and gain invaluable experience and insight as you work closely with a trained R&D team.

The R&D team oversees the development and optimisation of exciting new diagnostic products. At the moment they are primarily focussed on COVID-19 relief efforts, however their line of work will later branch out to include other respiratory and infectious diseases. You will be responsible for analysing samples, assisting with the day-to-day running of the lab and, crucially, you will have the opportunity to assist the R&D with their research and ongoing clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Scientists and Senior Scientists or independently lead planning, design, execution, and interpret results of product development projects.
  • Data analysis, result interpretation, report writing and communication the results to relevant team members with minimal supervision regularly.
  • Proactively contribute towards solutions for technical challenges.
  • Function effectively as a core team member on multiple concurrent projects with a willingness to work outside the normal scope of the role if required.
  • Hours are 9am-5pm; however these may vary and we are looking for someone who could potentially work more flexibly should the need arise.



  • Previous lab experience in molecular lab techniques (nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, loop mediated isothermal amplification, and gel electrophoresis, etc.)
  • Have obtained a relevant scientific degree (BSc, MSc, or equivalent)
  • Good laboratory practice, high attention to laboratory health and safety and ability to follow and maintain SOPs are essential
  • Meticulous note-keeping of research activities
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving, effective interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills
  • High standards of experimental work, analytical skill, systematic problem-solving ability, and a strong work ethic
