We are looking for a Junior R&D scientist to join our growing team based at our R&D lab in Oxford! In this role you will have a chance to progress and grow within a fast-paced and ambitious biotech company, enhance your skills in advanced molecular techniques and gain invaluable experience and insight as you work closely with a trained R&D team.
The R&D team oversees the development and optimisation of exciting new diagnostic products. At the moment they are primarily focussed on COVID-19 relief efforts, however their line of work will later branch out to include other respiratory and infectious diseases. You will be responsible for analysing samples, assisting with the day-to-day running of the lab and, crucially, you will have the opportunity to assist the R&D with their research and ongoing clinical trials.
Work closely with Scientists and Senior Scientists or independently lead planning, design, execution, and interpret results of product development projects.
Data analysis, result interpretation, report writing and communication the results to relevant team members with minimal supervision regularly.
Proactively contribute towards solutions for technical challenges.
Function effectively as a core team member on multiple concurrent projects with a willingness to work outside the normal scope of the role if required.
Hours are 9am-5pm; however these may vary and we are looking for someone who could potentially work more flexibly should the need arise.
Previous lab experience in molecular lab techniques (nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, loop mediated isothermal amplification, and gel electrophoresis, etc.)
Have obtained a relevant scientific degree (BSc, MSc, or equivalent)
Good laboratory practice, high attention to laboratory health and safety and ability to follow and maintain SOPs are essential
Meticulous note-keeping of research activities
Strong organisational, problem-solving, effective interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills
High standards of experimental work, analytical skill, systematic problem-solving ability, and a strong work ethic
