Widely reported declines in wild bee species worldwide are placing pollination services under threat. This decline is a particular challenge to agriculture and horticulture, where pollination is key to producing many major crops such as soft fruits, top fruits and nuts. These challenges require innovative and diverse solutions to supplement pollination services. Flies, especially hoverflies, have proven potential as crop pollinators and yet are underutilised in agricultural practice. Olombria works with flies as crop pollinators using precision agriculture and combining technological and ecological systems.

ABOUT THE JOB
Olombria is looking for a Hardware Engineer to support the growing organisation by leading and overseeing the hardware and embedded-software efforts.
The Hardware Engineer will play a key role in structuring and executing the company's hardware plan, managing a small team of talented engineers, as well as coordinating the manufacturing plan for Olombria's hardware. We are looking to have this position filled by someone with industry and manufacturing experience - an enthusiastic and proactive team player with a problem-solving mindset who is motivated to work in a fast-paced start-up environment.
Managing and continuing to build Olombria's team of hardware, software and machine learning engineers;
Coordinating and executing hardware-related activities ahead of planned manufacturing;
Coordinating and executing testing and compliance activities related to the hardware planning;
Liaising with third party consultancies and development partners.
4 – 8 years’ experience in relevant roles
Experience collaborating with engineers and product management on design specifications to ensure meeting requirements for new products
Leading and managing electronics design projects to ensure manufacturability, safety and performance is optimised
Testing and manufacturing experience
Experience using microcontrollers
PCB design experience
Experience in low power design and power optimisation
Embedded firmware development using C/C++
Ability to coordinate and manage partnerships, collaborations, and/or consultancy work
Antenna design for wireless topologies
Experience developing wireless communication protocols, BLE, LoRa, ZigBee
Ability to undertake all regulatory compliance including risk assessment, EMC, etc
Python or other scripting languages
