Over the last nine years, Forward Partners has built a successful Venture Capital business. In 2020, we launched a new revenue based finance business called Forward Advances, which is where this role sits.

We are a serverless FinTech with bold plans. We are looking for an entrepreneurial Lead Engineer to join us in the Forward Advances team to define practices, culture and help the business to fully appreciate the Art of the Possible in 2022 serverless computer terms.

We are 100% Lean Agile, 100% Needs-driven and we champion collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches.

Our current approach is hybrid, with the team coming together twice a week and having the option to work remotely for the rest of the week. We like each other’s company and believe that some work is best done together.

Why is this role important to what we do?

• New Team: Having outsourced our initial v1 stack two years ago, we are now pulling the expertise and innovation for our digital offerings in-house, and to this end we are starting a new Engineering Division, to work initially alongside our existing team of contractors.
• New stack: We’re building out a brand new tech real estate on AWS (Lambda, Athena, AppSync, Step Functions, and so on), all managed automagically with Terraform.

What sort of person are we looking for?

• A keen, energetic Lead Engineer who will own the practice and disciplines upon which successful cloud projects are entirely reliant.
• A key player in building out a brand new team
• A great attitude - Our core language stack is a mix of Node & Typescript but for us it’s your approach and general Cloud skills that we care more about. Languages can be learned; characteristics are innate.
• If you’re the kind of engineer who just wants to write clever code with a bunch of other engineers then maybe this is NOT the role for you… But if you love rolling up your sleeves, getting inside a problem and really delivering innovative improvements which delight users - external and internal - then we are looking for YOU!

People we love, will have:

• Excellent coding in one or more of: Javascript (Ecmascript), Python, Typescript
• Proficiency in Git (understanding rebasing, reflogs, etc)
• Experience in AWS (in general)
• Discipline in knowing when a better solution is required, but wise enough to know when a solution is “good enough”
• A focus on User Needs
• Inspiring team leadership to between three and five other engineers
• Active listening skills
• Excellent and clear communication skills, both written and verbal English

Bonus points for any of the below:

• Experience in AWS Serverless tech (Lambda, Step Functions)
• Conversant with Terraform
• Fluency in GraphQL
• Conversant with Docker & Docker Compose
