About Wonderbly

Wonderbly (Children’s Publisher of the Year 2021) is a unique, award-winning publishing company that creates high-quality personalised books for children and grown ups. Our mission is to create incredibly personalised books to make loved ones feel extraordinarily special – and we need extraordinarily special people to help us do that.

We write, illustrate, build, design, and sell all of our products directly, and have a terrific team working to produce our wonderful products spanning from Art Directors to Dev Ops. Working together we have sold more than 3 million books in every country in the world, and we’re just getting started! With the work you’ll do here with us, we’d like to think we’re on track towards becoming the UK’s most admired creative company.

About the role

We have a rare opening for an Art Studio Coordinator to join our Story Studio team, the group of editors, writers, artists and designers at the heart of the company that create our very special personalised products.

At Wonderbly, we live to inspire grown-ups and delight kids. We are always striving to make better books – books that are more delightful, more inspiring, more innovative and more personalised than anything else on the market. The thing is, this requires a lot of art! We need to grow our team to keep our production machine working smoothly and are looking for an Art Studio Coordinator to assist with the managing of our asset workflow and the talented pool of lead artists, support artists, designers and artworkers that create our incredible books.

Life as Wonderbly’s Art Studio Coordinator

With several varied projects running simultaneously across the business, you’ll need resilience, a sense of humour, and the project management equivalent of gymnastic flexibility. Working within our ambitious art department means you’ll also need a love of visual design and an eye for detail and consistency. We’re real go-getters here, and approach everything we do with curiosity, creativity and plenty of excitement.

So… if you’re an art loving master plate-spinner, who is keen to develop a career in project and art management, this could be the role for you!

A bit more about the role

  • You’ll be responsible for all Art Department Resourcing: scheduling, booking and contracting of freelance Artists and Artworkers, and the tracking of their work and time across projects.
  • You’ll onboard and train new contractors on our Wonderbly ways of working, in everything from file organisation to character design.
  • You’ll give constructive, actionable feedback to Artists and Artworkers, independently and with the support of our Project Designers.
  • You will support the Story Studio Art Director and Project Book Designers in recruiting and training Lead Artists, Character Support Artists, Colour Support Artists, Storyboard Artists, and Artworkers. We work with a lot of great people, and part of your role will be to help us find even more.
  • You’ll interact with our Development team and our Brand Creative team on the status of Art Department deliverables.
  • You will be able to identify new ways that our projects and our team can work more efficiently, through running timely project retrospectives and streamlining our existing processes.

About you:

  • You’re curious about art, illustration and the world of children’s picture books
  • You’re an excellent communicator – happy to liaise with multiple teams and freelancers. You can always get your point across clearly and kindly.
  • You have exceptional attention to detail – you love to get organised and interrogate the small stuff. The teeny tiny stuff.
  • You’re able to break down complex situations and processes into simpler or more comprehensible parts and you’re able to explain these to all types of learners.
  • You are fluent in the use of online collaborative tools, e.g. Figma, Miro, Float, Slack, etc.
  • You have a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • You have a digital mindset that can absorb new knowledge, work with new tools, and effectively communicate new understandings to team members and stakeholders.
  • You have one to two year’s professional experience in project coordination/management.
  • You have demonstrable experience managing a set of complex problems across a business.
  • You may have studied project management, design management, or business operations coordination.

First and foremost you should join Wonderbly because of the work. We’re on a mission to inspire boundless self belief in every child, everywhere through our beautiful personalised books.

  • A salary of up to £30,000 p/a pro rata
  • The chance to work on something your friends and family will fall in love with
  • We have a flexible, hybrid working model that you can tailor to suit what works best for you. Depending on Covid restrictions, we're asking our staff to come into our lovely light filled Central London studio at least two days a week and then to choose what works best for them for the rest of the time
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Regular Yoga classes and mental health support
  • Personal training allowance
  • 28 days holiday, plus 8 bank holidays
  • Health insurance to keep you in tip-top shape
  • Pension scheme
  • We love having dogs in the office (well behaved ones anyway)!
