Data Scientist at 411 Data Ltd
go back to Data and Product Jobs- Remote
- parttime

411 Data create Data Assets: normalised, high-quality, self-describing data sets combining raw data from many sources. We specialise in Alternative Data, that is: anything you can't find on a Bloomberg terminal including: satellite, air travel, mobile phone, shipping, point of sale and many others.
Company mission
Unlock the potential of AI (and other) models by feeding them the right data, to drive the right decisions.
The role
- You will work remotely for the majority of the time. We are based in London, so occasional travel would be required unless you happen to be located here already.
- This would initially be a part-time role, with scope to progress to full-time in the future.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a Data Scientist to help build out our product offering. You would be working with both open source and proprietary data frame and other data science libraries combined with a wide variety of alternative datasets. Our technology platform builds on long industry experience, enabling us (and therefore you) to handle problems and data scale simply inaccessible to most market participants.
You will primarily be responsible for bringing new data sets to market. This means building a deep understanding of the data, working with vendors when necessary. The data will need to be normalised to fit an existing ontology (extending that ontology as necessary). Once the data is ready for use, you will need to produce use cases, visualisations, insights and demonstration models in order to articulate the data's value to customers.
Candidate requirements
- At least 2 years data science experience with data frame and/or tensor libraries, using Python
- Be able to see data and analytics through a commercial lens, relating it to the real world
- Strong academic record in a quantitative field
- Excellent and proven communication and teamwork skills
About 411 data
We are newly formed (1st April 2023) but the founders are highly experienced with precisely the mix of skills and experience to make this business successful. Both founders are former Managing Directors in major international banks, and have prior startup experience, ~6 years in data brokerage and the deep industry connections necessary for commercial success in this market.
Our technical foundation is exceptional, and builds on prior experience in the field.
What we offer
We are negotiable, but at this early stage we are primarily interested in candidates who are willing to be "Employee 1", take a significant portion of compensation in equity in exchange for being in on the ground floor, and potentially to help shape the evolution of the company itself.
It is a unique opportunity to work with a huge variety of commercially-relevant data, including many large scale private data sets. Since we provide data to many clients, you will touch a lot more data than a typical "in house" data scientist would ever have access to.
Interview process
We will start with an introductory call to establish fit. We would then proceed to a hands-on data science exercise based on Jupyter notebooks and your choice of Python-based data science tools.
