General Description of the Role

Emotech is currently raising the state-of-the-art in multiple areas of speech and language processing. We currently have multiple projects in the Middle East for Arabic language that involve multiple NLP capabilities: world-beating Arabic speech-to-text systems, bilingual English and Arabic text-to-speech engines, and large Arabic language models. We are looking for experienced NLP Applied Research Scientists with a focus in Arabic language who will be able to expand this work and lead our research and products to become the go-to AI provider in the Middle East market.

As an NLP Applied Research Scientist, you will be responsible for

• Conduct applied research in NLP topics, with a strong focus on Arabic NLP
• Collaborate closely with the research team to turn research into working solutions
• Manage projects from inception to successful delivery
• Have an understanding of the business needs and incorporate them into your solutions
• Deliver production-ready code that can be deployed to customers

Minimum Requirements:

• Masters Degree or higher in NLP or an adjacent area of Engineering/Computer Science (speech processing, machine learning, computer vision, deep learning)
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in Arabic NLP in industry (or academic equivalent)
• Proficient knowledge of at least a programming language commonly used in the community (e.g. Python, Rust, C++11)
• Experience in Linux environments, working with CUDA-capable machines
• In-depth knowledge of algorithms for NLP, speech processing, deep learning

Advantageous:

• Proficient/bilingual/native level of Arabic
• Previous experience using Deep Learning techniques for NLP such as transformers
• Previous experience with speech tasks (ASR or TTS)
• Previous experience developing production-ready code
• Previous experience working closely with product/project stakeholders
