Financial Crime & Compliance Director at algbra

You will be responsible for helping ensure we comply with our financial crime and broader regulatory responsibilities as we grow, as well as our ethical policies, which are at the heart of Algbra’s mission.
A key part of your role will be to further develop our culture of proactive compliance across the business, guiding and informing the whole team.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading on and owning our financial crime and compliance strategy, framework and monitoring programme
Instilling a positive, proactive culture towards compliance across the company
Overseeing policies, procedures and training across the full-range of compliance areas, including, financial crime, credit, payments, consumer duty, conflicts of interest, conduct risk, anti-bribery, data protection and our ethical policies
Keeping abreast of regulatory requirements and changes, and putting in place any necessary changes to our policies or procedures
Coordinating our regulatory and partner compliance reporting
Owning, delivering and administering required compliance training to staff
Algbra's approach to compliance, legal and regulatory

We are looking for a driven, pragmatic and collaborative Compliance Director.
Key attributes
Key to your success in this role will be:
- Deep practical understanding of and ability to successfully execute financial crime compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills that instil the confidence of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Significant experience managing teams and implementing financial crime compliance frameworks at a retail bank, electronic money institution (EMI) or payments services provider (PSP)
Strong understanding of the regulatory requirements that apply to EMIs, in particular in relation to financial crime and sanctions requirements
Strong change and project management skills, including the ability to plan and monitor projects, manage time well, prioritise effectively and handle multiple deadlines
Excellent organisation to ensure all activities are thoroughly tracked, monitored and reported on, including coordination with others in the business on this
Experience and understanding of compliance technology, such as as ID verification and transaction monitoring solutions
Excellent communication skills, and in particular to communicate effectively regarding regulatory requirements and compliance internally and externally
Strong stakeholder management and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams across the business and internationally
5 years within a financial services compliance function
Nice to haves
Experience of providing compliance services on a consultancy basis or as part of a B2B business
Experience of consumer credit, home finance or investment compliance experience
Knowledge of ethical or ESG compliance
Knowledge of Sharia compliant financial products, in particular Sharia compliant home purchase plans
Experience working in a start-up
