UK Network Intern

at The Food Assembly in London

The Food Assembly is an online platform that enables direct trade between local producers and customers.

How each Assembly works is simple: An Assembly is started by a Host, who organises an online food market for their local community. While buying takes place online, collection happens once a week at a pop-up market where customers and food producers meet. Producers get a fair price for their products - over 80% for every product sold, compared to the 15%-25% that most supermarkets offer them - and only deliver what they have pre-sold so avoid any waste; customers get access to excellent locally sourced products.

The Food Assembly is Winner of the Best Retailer category at the Urban Food Awards and the BBC’s Best Initiative in British Food award.

Launched in France in September 2011, the network is growing daily and now connects over 1,000,000 members with 8,500 producers in 1,000 Assemblies across France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The Food Assembly launched in the UK in July 2014 and we are now looking for an intern to assist with the training and support of Hosts and Producers and development of the network. This is an exciting role with the chance to get actively involved alongside the team and make a genuine impact within a fast-growing organisation and international movement.

We are looking for someone with good people skills, a can-do attitude and willingness to learn and experiment, an appetite for challenging social and economic norms and passion for creative, positive economic alternatives. We value these character traits as much as credentials and welcome applications from a diversity of backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and educational qualifications.

-Support Local Entrepreneurship: Support Hosts of open Assemblies to grow their Assemblies.

-Network Development: Liaise with other team members to help innovate the development of the UK network.
