Full Stack Developer

at Buildupp in London

(₤60000 - ₤70000 per year)

About the company

Buildupp is dedicated to solving long standing efficiency problems in one of the world's oldest and most complex industries: Construction.

Globally, this industry is worth over $15,000,000,000,000 ($15tn) a year. However, hundreds of billions of dollars are wasted annually through out-dated and combative construction practices.

It is fragmented; it is competitive; it is messy.

To solve some of these problems, Buildupp aims to become the single online network for everyone in the building industry to find, connect & work with one another. We believe this can only be achieved through a dedication to understanding customer needs, long term strategic planning and an appetite for pursuing the harmonious integration of beautiful design, simplicity and utility.

We have spent the last 6 months building and launching our MVP. We now need to keep iterating on the product and responding to user needs.

To give you an idea of where we’re headed over the next 6-9 months, we are working on a project photography focussed viral loop for bringing people into the network. This will require heavy full-stack capabilities, integration with mailing services and collaboration with our in-house architectural photographers. We are also developing a suite of features to help companies & individuals with business development on the platform such as marketing, managing contacts and linking to social media accounts. This will involve prototyping, user testing and group workshops with end users.

Buildupp uses Ruby on Rails as its primary framework. We're currently deploying to Heroku, with some use of AWS (S3, Cloudfront). The app is currently light on Javascript, and we plan to keep it that way in the short term. We haven't taken the leap to a front-end heavy framework like Angular/React yet, but may well do so soon. We've used ZURB Foundation to help us get started quickly, but we're open to rebuilding this from scratch when the time is right. We use HAML and SASS to compile the markup and stylesheets, currently through the asset pipeline, although we will likely move to webpack at some point. The code is tested using RSpec, with acceptance tests written in Cucumber.
