The Young & Viral is a collaborative digital agency operating in London. We are disrupting the world of design agencies and have a unique business model allowing us to use our talented network of freelancers on a project-by-project basis. Combining the various skills of all our freelancers we are able to offer the full media agency package but without the agency price tag. 

We are an exciting startup with lots of plans and ambition to grow. We have grown organically over the last 3 years through word of mouth with little marketing. We now have ambitious plans to grow exponentially through creating a platform which will act as an online portal for our network of clients, project managers and freelancers to collaborate through.

In order to help achieve this ambition, we are looking to recruit a CTO / Development Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of the platform, implementing and testing the platform and once live, the continued enhancements to support the platform’s growth.

This is a critical hire (the first in-house developer/ chief technology officer!) and you will be an integral part of the team, working closely with the co-founders. You will take ownership of building a world class scalable technology solution. The entrepreneurial role would suit a candidate looking to get involved in an exciting startup from the early stages and help create and define the development process and strategy.

The successful candidate will be working directly with the Co-founders and Creative Project Manager who have created a sophisticated brief for the platform and will be able to offer guidance, their business perspective and vision for the platform.

Due to the startup nature of the company, the candidate will often be working alone with guidance and input from the Co-founders. They will need to demonstrate that they are a proactive self-motivator with entrepreneurial flair. Amongst having the development skills and competencies required to create the platform, the successful candidate will need to be able to manage their own time efficiently whilst achieving the deadlines set by the Directors.

This exciting role would suit a recent graduate from with a Computer Science (or equivalent degree) who is looking to get involved with a startup or alternatively a developer with a couple of years’ experience in a similar role.


• Analyse the brief that has been created, adding in your input and development expertise to create a development strategy and timeline.
• Develop, test, beta release and then fully release the platform bsed on the agreed brief.
• Once live, continue the on-going development and enhancements

Key Skills

• Full Stack Development, capable of developing usable front end and back – strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery
• Experience with relational database design and building
• Solid understanding of WordPress standards, database structure, themes, plugin integration and development and responsive mobile development
• Experience of building responsive, cross-browser and cross-platform compatible solutions, including cross-browser testing
• Entrepreneurial and positively energetic in sourcing solutions. 


• Computer Science degree or alternatively a combination of education and relevant experience i.e. 2+ years of experience in developing software in a commercial or start-up environment

Useful but non-essential skills:
• Good design skills and understanding of user experience (UX)
• Scrum / Agile methodologies


• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and a demonstrated ability to think outside the box when coming up with solutions to problems
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (English)
