The Role

Our company manages multiple websites on which millions of products from multiple suppliers are served to users. Before reaching our users, the products need to be normalised and categorised. We are seeking someone that can use creativity and common sense to best categorise the products for our users; who can continuously monitor and update those categories with new retailers and products while ensuring a very high standard of data quality; who can iterate changes and improvements to performance and ultimately hand over the work to a remote team that they manage.

Role & Responsibilities

• Agree categories and best way of categorising products;
• Configure MySQL to add or remove retailers on our different websites.
• Use our Machine Learning (ML) web interface tool to correctly categorise and label products to train the ML models.
• Review the products that appear on the sites post-labelling.
• Run Command Line to trigger the transfer of settings / products from the development to staging and production (live) environments.
• Investigate drops in product counts on our different sites, find the causes and implement fixes where possible.
• Determine ways to monitor the data quality within all the different categories across all our sites.
• Build and manage an outsourced team to ensure a high standard of data quality across all categories and sites
• Review site performance and identify opportunities for improvement, discuss with team and agree steps for improvement.



• Analytical mindset - big believer in testing first and then applying changes based on evidence, then monitoring how data sets change over time, resulting from those changes.
• Organised and excellent at prioritising his / her own tasks.
• Strong communicator – specifically an excellent command of the English language.
• MySQL - should be able to write select, insert, update and delete queries.
• Command Line – be able to write and run scripts.
• Excel / Google Sheets - able to give examples of using complex formula.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a relevant role

• Basic knowledge of retail – know that Currys don’t sell Women’s clothing for example.
• Experience managing a remote worker / team.
• Experience using project management software, JIRA, Trello etc.
• Experience reporting on progress to the wider team.
