Description

Adzuna is a job search engine that lists every job, everywhere. From launch in the UK in 2011, we have grown to 16 markets and more than 10 million visitors a month. Right now, we’re seeking an experienced General Manager for North America to join our world class team in helping millions of people find better, more fulfilling jobs.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the GM North America will be responsible for developing and growing Adzuna’s job search engine in the US and Canada. It’s a general management role combining a strong emphasis on revenue and team management, with elements of strategy, marketing, product and operations as well.

You’ll grow our North American business aggressively in terms of traffic, revenue and gross profit. You’ll figure out how to grow both enterprise and job board customer segments and build the Adzuna brand in the US and Canada by constantly improving our product and adapting our sales & marketing strategy. In addition, some marketing functions such as email and delivery will be provided by the central marketing team, based in London.

You’ll set direction for and manage:

  • a VP of Sales, based in Indianapolis, who manages a talented enterprise sales team
  • a Head of Operations, based in London, who manages the job board segment, a team of account managers and represents the US team with central product and marketing teams.
  • a small number of dedicated US marketing specialists

It is expected that the role will be based in London initially with the intention of relocation to the US in due course, but this is open for discussion.

Requirements

US and Canada P&L management

  • Lead the North American business unit to become a fantastic growth engine for Adzuna
  • Build sales & marketing business plans to support the rapid development of the enterprise and job board verticals and hit traffic and revenue targets
  • Understand tech trends and lead product changes both internally and in the industry by working closely with and feeding into our Product and Tech teams
  • Work with Chief Commercial Officer to allocate resources required

Commercial growth and business development

  • Set ambitious sales targets for your reports and their teams
  • Ensure that each vertical achieves sales, revenue and margin targets, and grows a balanced portfolio of clients
  • Develop our capabilities in new business sales, negotiations, client happiness/success and account management
  • Support business development around partnerships, ATS providers and other industry alliances where relevant
  • Build Adzuna’s relationships with key programmatic and media agencies

Marketing plans and traffic growth

  • Set ambitious traffic targets – and then find a way to hit and exceed them
  • Ensure that the marketplace is balanced and that revenue opportunities are delivered to the highest possible quality to ensure return business
  • Determine where to focus spend and team time for greatest return on investment across a range of activities and marketing channels. Work closely with the central marketing team to manage the balance between global and local marketing initiatives in channels like SEM, Email, PR & SEO.
  • Create a powerful B2B marketing machine and build client (and jobseeker) brand awareness and preference
  • Develop with your team a wide and robust network of traffic partnerships
  • Test new growth channels and approaches to jobseeker acquisition and retention and measure and improve performance and efficiency on a week-by-week basis

Team management and development

  • Hire, retain, develop and motivate a diverse and talented group of people and develop team structure over time
  • Motivate each individual to grow their own area/vertical in a true entrepreneurial spirit, always focusing their talent on activities with maximum business impact
  • Run goal setting, OKRs, weekly meetings and reporting and 1-on-1s
  • Help develop tools, processes and automation to make the team more effective

Contribution to Adzuna globally

  • Contribute to the Management Team and overall business strategy and processes, identifying issues that span across markets
  • Liaise closely with the Marketing & Tech teams to ensure continued world-class user experience for all current and prospective users and clients
  • Lead initiatives to grow the global business through strategic partnerships and alliances

Your experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience, with broad exposure to sales and online marketing channels (SEO, SEM and PR) - or a relevant product management, business development or growth role
  • Thorough understanding (ideally through direct experience) of the digital recruitment marketing / advertising space, including performance-based pricing (pay per click / pay per apply) models and programmatic job distribution.
  • Have managed teams of 10+ people effectively and enjoy bringing a team together to achieve results
  • Have had exposure to a multi-country environment and worked in a start-up environment or at a top consulting firm before
  • Extensive work experience in North America and success building traffic in markets such as US and Canada
  • Have a top numeric degree from a top university. An MBA would be a plus
  • Have a strong understanding of internet business models and the ability to think strategically
