The Role – Business Development
We’re a multi award-winning start-up, with significant scope for multi-channel and multi-national scale and growth over the next 5 years. We need ambitious, passionate, and curious people to maximise the many opportunities we have in the pipeline and help bring on new ones, taking the business to the next level. We’re already established in the UK, expanding in Europe, and launching in the US in the coming months. 2020 will see our business move forward significantly - this role is not for the faint-hearted or for time wasters.
Your work in the business development (BD) team will be varied and the successful candidate will need to be adaptable in the way they conduct commercial activities whilst ensuring to be smart and strategic in their thinking. Subject to your skills and experience, your role title could be BD Assistant, Executive, or Assistant Manager. We offer innovative and sustainable wine packaging solutions, centred around eco, flat wine bottles, and the unique benefits of our products are applicable to a wide variety of channels such as eCommerce, airlines, supermarkets, festivals, or food delivery subscriptions. Once up to speed, the successful candidate will be expected to have sufficient understanding of our business and these channels to be able to strongly communicate to potential business customers, in both written and verbal comms, why what we offer as a company works better for them, as a potential customer, than the round, glass bottles they use at present.
This is not a pure sales role and, under the guidance of your manager, you will have the opportunity to research, qualify and contact your own set of leads, giving you the ability to make your mark on the future success of the business. We’re a relatively small team and you’ll be pushed to take responsibility for your own work and encouraged to take ownership of certain sales channels, accounts or countries.
The more you’re willing to take on, providing you successfully demonstrate quality in your work, a high level of attention to detail, and professional capability, the more opportunities we’ll be willing to offer you. After all, the success of the company is directly linked to how well the BD team performs.
You’ll be expected to conduct day-to-day sales support activities such as CRM updates and management, ad hoc tasks for the management team, assistance with new product development, and working alongside the marketing team to ensure creation and distribution of quality, channel/country-specific communications to support the BD activities. However, the majority of your focus will be on;
- Lead and opportunity generation:
You will be responsible for harvesting country and channel-specific leads and turning these into opportunities. You will also create tailored proposals for new potential business customers along with weekly progress reports.
- Reactive lead and opportunity engagement:
You will be responsible for validating and qualifying new inbound enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Key opportunity and account support:
You will be responsible for supporting the BD Manager with key opportunities and accounts. This will include, but not be limited to; pre-, during and post-meeting admin, working with the marketing team to create tailored assets, relationship building, implementation and execution of sales strategy.

We’re the London-based inventors and granted multinational IP owners of sustainable wine packaging solutions for a 21st century world. Our eco- friendly solution to heavy, spatially inefficient bottles is lightweight, flat bottles made of 100% post-consumer recycled PET, pre-existing material not single-use plastic, which are 40% spatially smaller and 87% lighter than round, glass bottles of the same volume. These multi award-winning bottles enable game-changing, complementary transit packaging which amplify the bottles’ benefits. Our aim is to improve convenience and functionality for consumers, cut logistics costs and slash carbon emissions from the wine industry's supply chain, while prioritising sustainability to protect the health of our planet.

As with all our new starters, the role will operate as an initial probationary period of around three months, subject to the candidate, and remunerated on an escalating tiered system. Following successful completion of your probationary period, a review will take place and there will be an agreed fair market salary upon becoming a permanent member of the Garçon Wines team.
