Introduction:

Are you an experienced data scientist with a passion for technology? We use tech to help solve the most pressing issues facing society through scalable SaaS models. CityMaaS are currently recruiting for a lead data scientist to join on a fixed term contract basis until July 2020, extending to a full-time position upon completion of further funding.

Why We’re Hiring:

CityMaaS is a deep mapping platform that optimises the users’ travel experience.  We are initially focussing on assisting people with limited mobility from A to B in smart cities. Currently raising a Seed round after investment from a number of investors including Avis Budget Group, we are looking to strengthen our tech talent and take our products to market.

CityMaaS is Waze for walking traffic, using bespoke accessibility profiles to overcome daily travel obstacles.  There are 13 million disabled people in the UK and 1 billion globally. The “purple pound” in the UK alone is worth £250 billion per year. CityMaaS uses crowd-sourced and open data, supplemented by machine learning, to provide personalised travel assistance through a self-adapting interface to provide an end-to-end service from route optimisation to booking and payments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to optimise travel experience and predict user intent
  • Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to commercialise thr designed models
  • Test data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for commercialisation
  • Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results
  • Assess the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improve data collection methods
  • Horizon scan to stay up to date with the latest technology, techniques and methods
  • Conduct research from which you'll develop prototypes and proof of concepts
  • Stay curious and enthusiastic about using algorithms to solve problems and enthuse others to see the benefit of your work.

 Requirements and Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
  • Good scripting and programming skills
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig {{actual list depends on what you are currently using in your company}}
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase {{depending on project needs}}
  • Great communication skills
  • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
  • Data-oriented personality
