About Entrepreneur First
Entrepreneur First brings together the world’s most ambitious people to build deep tech startups from scratch in London, Singapore, Berlin, Paris, Bangalore and Toronto. We invest in exceptional individuals even before they have a team or an idea and help them find a co-founder, develop ideas, and subsequently raise funding from investors to build the world’s most valuable tech companies. To date, we have helped build over 230 companies with a total valuation of over $1.8 billion.
Entrepreneur First itself is backed by some of the world’s best investors, including the founders of LinkedIn, DeepMind and PayPal.
About the role:
You will manage the team that runs EF London's Form programme. This is the main company building part of EF. It begins with Investment Committee Zero, where we make decisions about which individuals to invest in and invite to EF, through to when we invest in the companies they create from scratch on the programme. The Form Manager will work closely with the Talent, Admissions and Launch teams, and seek to catalyse their work.
You and your team have the following responsibilities:
Talent and Admissions:
As Form Manager, you won't just be involved in company building, but in identifying and selecting the world’s most talented and ambitious future founders. We make offers to a very select number of these outlier individuals. Each offer represents the opportunity to start a technology company, and for the individual to use their ambition to have a lasting, powerful impact. You will:
+ Represent EF at talks and conferences with some of the UK’s most prestigious academic and entrepreneurial institutions
+ Represent EF in 1:1 interactions with outlier individuals including industry experts, top technologists and academics
+ Review applications and run interviews as part of Investment Committee Zero, “IC0”. IC0 is where we make decisions about which individuals to invest in and invite onto the EF Programme.
Every offer made at IC0 represents an opportunity for that individual to build a company that transforms an industry or creates a new one from scratch. Every offer holder has a huge opportunity cost associated with their time. You will:
+ Build the relationships and design the process which ensures that every offer made at IC0 is accepted. Offer holders will have competing offers from institutions like Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, DeepMind, Facebook et al.
Team building: crack the code for founding teams:
Form is a unique opportunity designed to fast-track the process of finding a co-founder. As Form Manager, you will have responsibility for the quality and quantity of teams that are built during Form. Your mission is to build as many strong teams as possible. You will:
+ Actively manage team breakups and formation, using EF frameworks and data
+ Support the teams through the ideation process, using EF frameworks and your understanding of basic business concepts (e.g. Market Sizing)
+ Where necessary, develop EF’s team building and ideation frameworks
At the end of Form, teams pitch to the Investment Committee to receive funding and join Launch, the second part of the programme. It is highly competitive and we don’t fund every team. As Form Manager, you will have responsibility for the quality and quantity of the companies put forward to the Investment Committee.
You and your team will prepare teams to build a narrative and answer basic investor questions, on topics ranging from problem-solution, to go-to-market to business model. Many of their answers will purely be hypotheses (because they are so early stage!) but it’s important these hypotheses are robust.
As Form Manager, you will manage a team of Analysts, Associates and Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs). Typically, Analysts and Associates are full time, while EiRs are part-time. You will foster and develop the existing high performance culture in the team by supporting those you manage with goal setting, problem solving and continuous feedback.
