Dataswift is an internet technology company launching a new generation personal data management platform that enables businesses to deliver legal ownership and control of personal data to their customers. We believe that personal data mobility by the individual should be a core component of internet infrastructure. We are the first to deliver personal data servers to individuals enabling them to legally store, process and control data at scale, globally.
Dataswift is a fast paced startup that transforms the relationship individuals have with their personal data. Through Dataswift, individuals are provided with ‘HAT’ personal data accounts, empowering them to use their data as an asset; facilitated by Dataswift’s contract provision infrastructure, individuals can then transact with that asset as they see fit.
Our incoming Head of Legal will be a keystone employee, able to guide the strategic positioning of Dataswift’s data exchange infrastructure, guide enterprise-level commercial contracts negotiation, oversee our internal governance processes, and minimise risks.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have strong commercial experience and mindset, a demonstrable interest in data law, and the ability to act with initiative and leadership in a fast moving tech environment.
You must be able to structure, negotiate, and draft a wide range of commercial agreements and technology contracts.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Role: Overseeing legal operations
Responsibilities of the role: ensuring product and technology processes and protocols match our legal and governance standards.
Role: Legal management of sales processes
Responsibilities of the role: negotiating commercial contracts with enterprise level organisations; overseeing negotiation ‘playbook’ for smaller organisations
Role: Leading governance
Responsibilities of the role: Overseeing our internal governance obligations over proposed data exchange contracts between individuals and those seeking to procure their data, ensuring we meet our obligations under GDPR and other applicable regulations.
You will definitely need:
- +5 years PQE in commercial law with a magic or silver circle firm
- Technology experience
- Strong interest in data protection law
- Intellectual curiosity
- High attention to detail
- Great communication skills, written and verbal
- Comfortable facing ambiguity and approaching undefined challenges; a high level of adaptability
- Digitally native skills - you pick up on how to use different digital tools very quickly and already know how to use a number of them
You will be perfect if you have:
- Have already worked within in-house capacity, especially in SaaS and fintech businesses
