The role:

(Imagining a Commercial Director or CCO type mix of activities, but role is initially subordinate to CEO - although it might grow into proper autonomy in the future)

Core activities :

  • Identify, assess and support the CEO to build opportunities for Spotta.
  • Build and maintain commercial relationships with downstream partners and customers
  • Support CEO with key strategic relationships and opportunities
  • Work across a range of verticals
  • Deep analytical assessment of markets (products, geographies, competitors, etc), build/contribute to GTM plans and business cases for products
  • Dealmaking
  • Be a representative of the company

Side activities (with other team members):

  • Sales and Marketing
  • Customer Support

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Doer, not just a talker
  • Extrovert, outward-facing network builder
  • Ability to sell (in the broadest sense)
  • Numerate, with strong business analytical skills, inc. financial literacy
  • Literate and a good writer
  • Understands Spotta’s technology and how to present it
  • Excellent presentation skills 
  • Tech, B2B startup experience
  • Cultural fit: ‘helpful expert’, transparent, evidence-based, trustworthy
  • Gets the big vision for Spotta
  • Commuting distance of Cambridge
  • Willing to travel internationally

Highly desirable:

  • Commercial acumen & negotiation skills
  • Leadership ability (or at least potential)
  • Strong CV to appeal to future investors
  • Looking to help build Spotta long-term
  • Someone different to the rest of the team (but not sacrificing culture fit)

Nice to have:

  • Marketing experience
  • Sales experience (sales leadership particularly advantageous)
  • Customer service experience
  • An eye for design and Spotta’s brand (be the internal ‘brand guardian’)

Good indicators of fit to role and/or requirements:

  • A few year’s experience in something strongly commercial (e.g. management consulting, but consider alternative indicators)
  • A few year’s tech startup experience in a similar role.
    • Emphasis on similar companies to Spotta.  People from B2C companies less likely to be a good fit.
  • STEM background/hobbies/1st degree
  • Already resident in or with links to Cambridge
