Are we looking for you?

Appt’s small, dynamic team are looking for a midweight Full Stack software engineer to help us achieve our goal of revolutionising preventive healthcare in the NHS. We are looking for a creative and ambitious self-starter – someone who can hit the ground running. You will be working closely with the rest of Appt's product team to design and ship exciting new features.

Do you want to solve hard problems and have social impact?

Appt is a social enterprise (that means we measure and value social impact as well as profits) that has been working in some of the most deprived parts of East London over the last four years to tackle health inequality (the idea that those from the lowest income backgrounds are most likely to suffer the negative effects of ill-health).

We have, 4x, been recognised by the UK government for our work and we have been funded by the UK’s research and development investment arm, Innovate UK (>£1.4m of innovation funding). We plan to raise a seed round in 2024.

We are now in the early stages of scaling across the country. We’ve already solved some of the major challenges for a health technology start-up working with the NHS: we have integrated our full workflow into NHS IT and we have won our first commercial contracts with NHS providers. We're ambitious both commercially and in terms of our social impact we believe we can deliver - to meet this ambition we need to grow. That's where you come in.

Interested? What will you actually be doing?

You will be responsible for turning user requirements into effective features. You will work closely with our growing product and design team to write, score and prioritise stories, and help to define the product development roadmap.

This is a great opportunity to join an early-stage start-up and see your skill set and responsibility grow alongside the company.

What skills will you need?

We are looking, first and foremost, for a team-player who would relish the opportunity to muck in and do what is required on the often-messy start-up journey. Beyond this we have a list of must haves:

  • 4-years professional experience as a software engineer (minimum)
  • .NET Core, C# development (advanced)
  • Angular (advanced)
  • SQL (solid working knowledge and a willingness to learn – intermediate)
  • Web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, Docker (intermediate)
  • Microsoft Azure, in particular Azure pipelines (intermediate)

Nice to haves:

  • Health technology experience
  • Agile methodologies
  • An interest in automated testing (unit testing, spec testing etc.)

What will you get in return:

You will be joining a fun, positive and collaborative team and enjoy a flexible working environment (work wherever you feel most productive, with most of the team based around Central London). You will get plenty of annual leave to make sure you’re well rested (28 days + bank holidays + 4 duvet-days per year - pro rata). We will also pay you a competitive salary (£45k-50k per annum).

OK sounds great! What else do you need to know?

We are looking to have someone in post quickly and we are reading applications as they come in, on a rolling basis. Respond to this post ASAP with an up-to-date CV - we will be in touch then to invite shortlisted candidates to a 30-minute chat over the phone, where we will explain the next steps.

Don't fit all the requirements?

Don't worry! If you don't quite fit all the requirements of this job specification, then remember - they're just guidelines! If you still think you could bring a spark to this role then we'd love to hear from you.
