About Novabook – Why we're starting a new accountancy firm?
Novabook exists because we've experienced firsthand the challenges and frustrations that come with traditional accountancy practices. We’re the founders behind Seneca Learning, which we took from inception in 2016 to 12 million registered users and a successful acquisition. We’re now hungry to start something new and what better way to tackle some of the tough challenges we’ve faced ourselves?

Our journey at Seneca highlighted the critical need for a more responsive, competent, and transparent approach to financial management. We've seen the impact of missed filings, incorrect bookkeeping, and unresponsive services on business operations and growth. We’ve experienced our fair share of headaches and after talking with dozens of business owners we realised we’re not the only ones.

Combining our eye for great service design with our experience in automating processes and building software, we believe we can set a new standard in the accounting sector. A service that’s the most competent, responsive, proactive and most of all takes ownership and acts as a one-stop financial partner without charging top dollar for it.

Role description – Why join?
This is an opportunity to shape an accounting firm from the ground up. We registered Novabook in February and are now hiring the first team members.

You will be working closely with the founding team and be responsible for establishing a best-in-class accounting function. You have ownership over designing and executing the accounting processes. So if you ever felt like things should be done differently and more effectively, then this is your opportunity. Aside from superior attention to detail, we are looking for a qualified accountant who values great customer experience and has strong communication skills. In the end, this is a client-facing role and we exist to help business owners.

We've got the funding to dream big, but let's be real: the early days of a startup are a wild ride. It's when the team's small with every day bringing a new challenge. And don't worry, we don’t want a culture of late nights and weekend sprints, but don’t get us wrong – when we're on, we really want to get things done.

Responsibilities

• Preparing statutory and management accounts for medium-sized businesses
• Calculating and filing corporation tax returns
• Ensuring Companies House records are up-to-date
• Overseeing the bookkeeping and payroll functions
• Providing a great customer experience

Requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA)
• 3+ years of work experience
• UK-based – ideally London, but flexible
• Hybrid set-up with 3 days/week in the office
