FinOps Lead in short

A FinOps Lead is a CFO, a tech expert, and a business leader all rolled into one.

The core of the job is leading the finance function across a range of dynamic startups... all at the same time.  You could be working with anywhere between one and a half a dozen dozen startups in a given week, so expect to run into a lot of problems and to learn incredibly quickly.

You’ll be supporting a FinOps Manager and a FinOps Associate on every job - as FinOps Lead its your responsibility to make sure that our partners have the right experts in their team at the right time... and that they’re effectively managed, coached and led.

Who we are

At RORA, we believe in doing work we care about with people we love.

To do this, we build new types of teams, perfectly designed for a new world of work. Our fractional teams are built specifically for startups - some of the most exciting and innovative businesses in the world.

This allows us to provide our team with amazing opportunities to make a real difference doing fun, challenging work. We take the safety of being an employee, with the variety you’d get as a contractor, alongside the support and development opportunities of a big firm.

We like to think it’s the best of everything.

What you'll get up to

Transforming finance teams

  • Lead the finance teams in the startups we support, either for consulting projects or long term partnerships.

  • Review, improve and implement systems and processes covering everything from Xero to Netsuite.

  • Ensure that the finance function is effectively supporting the rest of the business, via sharing data or supporting other operational teams.

Managing the partnership

  • Manage the relationship between RORA and our partners: Ensure that they have realistic expectations of what our FinOps Managers and FinOps Associates can get done in a given time frame.

  • Work with founders to understand the future plans for their business, ensuring that we’ve got the right finance team booked in before they’re needed.

Developing RORA

  • FinOps Leads go on to lead our L&D Pods every Wednesday - they organise training sessions, faciliate knowledge-sharing among the team and help their team navigate the RORA business model

  • They also take on a one on one coaching role and mentoring their Pod members so they achieve the progression, impact and variety that RORA promises

What you'll get from us

We believe reward should be tied to how well we all do.

You’ll get:

  • A starting salary of £68,000

  • Opportunity to progress and increase your salary every 6 months

  • A share of the company profits paid out annually

  • 34 days holiday incl. public holidays

  • A home working allowance for your perfect work-from-home setup

You’ll be in the deep-end working directly with our startup partners, but we will support you with the team and training you need to deliver real value.

So, we’ll also give you:

  • 10% of your time dedicated to learning and development

  • A small team that will have your back and support you as you grow

  • Free coaching through More Happi and therapy through Spill

Who you are

Your mindset

  • You want your work to have an immediate and profound impact. You’re comfortable making quick decisions that result in effective and positive changes to the teams in which you work.

  • Fixing problems is your thing. You thrive in the fact-paced environment of a startup and the challenges it brings as you relish working with founders to solve their issues.

  • Whilst you are able to flourish on your own, you’ll value the opportunity to work with and manage people from a variety of backgrounds. You won’t get much time in each startup, so you need to be comfortable affecting change by leveraging the strengths of your team.

  • You must be comfortable juggling multiple projects at the same time. Working in one startup is stressful, working across 10 or more is not for everyone. Don’t apply if that doesn’t sound appealing.

  • Enthusiastic to rip up the rule book and challenge the status quo. We don’t want more of the same, and nor should you.

  • Passionate about all areas of a start-up life. Whilst finance will be your primary function, our ideal candidates will have interest and experience in an area like operations, sales or marketing. We’re looking for candidates who have the potential to go on to lead RORA as a business so skills outside of finance are essential.

Your ideal experience

  • You’ve managed a finance function in a rapidly growing business.

  • You have experience juggling multiple clients, projects or stakeholders at the same time.

  • You've led teams from diverse backgrounds to complete projects under intense time pressure.

  • You’re experienced working with founders and functional teams from across a business. You haven’t only worked with and for colleagues in finance.

  • You’ll have some experience at Finance Director or CFO level, or you’ll be ready to step into your first role at this level.

  • You’re comfortable working across a range of finance systems like Xero, Dext etc. You’re not intimidated by learning about unfamiliar tools and systems quickly and under pressure.

Sounds good?

We’re always open and looking for great candidates. However, we can’t always guarantee an immediate start date.

If you’re interested, we suggest you get going with the application process - there’s a technical assessment and a case study exercise to ensure you’d be a good fit. We will update you with our next available start date as you get through the process.

If that works for you - hit apply and complete the short form below.

Good luck! We’ll be in touch soon.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

What we believe:

We believe we’re a product of the varied experiences, skills and stories of everyone in the team. The broader those experiences & skills, the more numerous the beginnings, and the more diverse the view point; the more we can challenge each other and challenge everything - our core principle.

We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply and help make RORA more diverse (and add much needed diversity to accounting as a profession).

What you can expect from us:

We are striving to create a new type of team. We believe we can create a new standard in finance, and in this journey, we are committed to eliminating all forms of direct and indirect discrimination.

We promise fairness and openness in our recruitment process, and to foster a diverse and healthy workplace for all.
