πŸ‘‹ Greenworkx - building the net-zero workforce

πŸ”¨ Our mission is to get 10 million more people into green jobs in 10 years.

We’re building the skilled trade workforce to deliver net-zero homes, roads and energy systems.

To start off, we’re building an app for people to discover green jobs, learn new skills and get matched to opportunities (check out our YouTube channel to learn more!).

Ultimately, our goal is to create the product, pathways and community to empower people to access and thrive in green jobs which are well-paid, future-ready and deeply meaningful - because they’re absolutely essential to combating climate breakdown.

There is a green skills emergency.

30-60 million more green workers are needed globally by 2030 to deliver net-zero.

This workforce shortage has real-world consequences in today’s energy security stresses, cost-of-living crisis and accelerating climate breakdown.

We’re making good, green jobs accessible to millions.

At Greenworkx, our mission is to get 10 million people into green jobs in 10 years.

This green skills emergency is an opportunity to build a fairer, more equitable future by bringing millions into a rapidly-growing sector.

Delivering net-zero requires the rapid deployment of green infrastructure - creating millions of green jobs that are well-paid, future-ready and deeply meaningful.

At the core of our mission is a double social and environmental impact. It’s through increasing access to good employment that we build the workforce to deliver net-zero.

πŸ‘€ Why are we hiring for this role?

πŸ’‘ Can you help us build lasting partnerships to amplify our impact in addressing the green skills gap?

Since we started trading in 2023, we have built a value proposition around helping employers hire and upskill their workforce in a way that aligns to the speed and scale of the challenge. On the back of great customer traction so far, we want to be able to grow repeatable and scalable income streams. You will be crucial to us achieving this by:

  1. Uncovering High-Potential Prospects - this role will spearhead the identification and outreach to promising prospects, leveraging the most effective communication methods.
  2. Driving Meaningful Prospects Engagement - This role will take the lead in establishing relationships with potential partners, amplifying our efforts in addressing the green skills gap.

πŸ—ΊοΈ What will you do in this role?

🧭 You will oversee and manage the process of identifying, wining and supporting partners, from initial engagement through onboarding and into fostering repeat business.

This is a multi-faceted role that requires a mixture of sales, deep interpersonal and organisational skills.

You’ll have a chance to do everything from:

  • Conduct research to identify potential leads in target markets
  • Participate in events to connect with industry-leading businesses
  • Collaborate with the partnerships team to develop and execute targeted outreach campaigns
  • Qualify and nurture leads through phone, email, and social media channels, with a focus on phone communication, which is highly relevant to our industry
  • Schedule calls with potential partners
  • Track and manage leads through the sales pipeline and update relevant databases
  • Provide regular updates on the performance of lead generation activities

We’re committed to your personal growth

You’ll deliver massive impact in the short-term - but, in a way, we’re more excited about your long-term future at Greenworkx.

You’ll be inside a pioneering, climate-focused edtech startup with huge mission and ambition.

As a company, we’ll be doing things that nobody has ever done before - so you’ll be individually doing things you haven’t done before (like all of us will).

That’s okay! We’d love for you to learn and growth with us.

As one of the first hires in an early-stage, mission-driven startup, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to:

  • take on accelerated responsibility;
  • be at the heart of new ideas and innovation; and
  • shape your own role and trajectory.

πŸ” Who are we looking for?

Our top priority is building a diverse team of mission-driven change-makers.

Above anything else, we’re looking for someone who would find it meaningful to commit to working on the green skills emergency (whether or not you’ve worked in climate before!).

This is the most important thing for a few reasons:

  • We think that work is better when it’s purposeful.

In general, we as humans spend a lot of our time at work.

In particular, early-stage startups can involve more work than an ‘average’ job. (It’s not banking hours, and we would never demand that, but it will be intense).

However, we also think that work can be enormously enjoyable, meaningful and motivating when it’s a mission which you deeply believe in.

We want everybody on the team to be able to experience that.

  • In a fast-paced startup, lots will change, but the mission remains our guide.

Startups can evolve, change and grow phenomenally quickly, in ways that can be unpredictable.

We’ve seen multiple examples of radical team, context and role evolution for individuals within startups before, in ways that neither the company nor person foresaw.

This job description represents our best hypothesis, plan and forecast for your role and your work - but as we move, grow and learn, it’s very possible that we’ll discover together that there is more important or impactful work for you to do.

However things change, though, they will always remain in service of the mission.

  • Our mission sets a culture - requiring both audacious ambition and radical humility.

We’re taking a venture-backed approach to our mission because it requires speed and scale.

We’re hugely ambitious for our impact. We need to be, for climate - it’s such an urgent and enormous challenge.

However, at the same time, we prioritise humility. Climate is bigger than any one of us as individuals.

There is an interesting tension between these two things - ambition and humility - and a mission-driven team is how we keep these things in balance.

  • Social impact is in our DNA - and we want to keep it that way.

Our co-founders started their careers in public services and charities.

Since then, we’ve moved into tech startups because we believe that modern innovation, rapid growth and private capital are all powerful (and under-utilised) resources for enormous social impact.

However, we believe that our social impact DNA is a strength - that, when you truly care about an outcome, you are more creative, collaborative and committed.

We’re here for missionaries, not mercenaries or ego-maniacs.

This is partly manifested in our 🌟Cultural Commitments at Greenworkx, which is strongly recommended reading.

But if you’d like some role-specific things that would further qualify you…

πŸ’‘ This isn’t a laundry list of requirements.

Many on our team, including our co-founders, have first-hand experience in applying, and getting, roles which they were (on paper) ‘under-qualified’ for.

Please don’t discount yourself - we love it when people learn and grow with us!

Behaviours

  • Feedback-seeking - you actively solicit constructive feedback for yourself
  • Open and communicative - you proactively share your drafts and work-in-progress
  • Upfront clarification - where you aren’t sure, you’ll check to make sure that you understand
  • Bias to action - you ‘get things done’ rather than sit and stew
  • Proactive problem-solving - you’ll proactively identify areas for improvement

Skills

  • Sales development (preferably acquired over a minimum of one year in an SDR or telemarketing role in a B2B sales environment) - to spearhead new outreach initiatives, build, and deliver a thorough end-to-end prospecting process
  • Empathy and listening - to understand the needs of our prospects
  • Verbal communication - to cold sell, conduct lead qualifying calls and network with potential partners
  • Written communication - to produce clear emails and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Data capabilities - to utilise data in determining actions and activities
  • Solid organisation - to keep on top of multiple things happening at once with excellent attention to detail

… and, some things we explicitly don’t require:

  • You don’t need to have worked on climate before - it’s a mission which needs all of us
  • You don’t need to fit tech/startup stereotypes - we’re actively seeking to build a diverse team
  • You don’t need a family endowment - we’re a startup, but we’ll pay fairly. Your base salary will be complemented by a bonus scheme and early employee equity.

πŸ˜„ Who will you work with?

🌳 You’ll work most with the Partnerships and Learner Development teams.

We work from an office where everybody sits together. Check out our website to see our profiles and say hello!

πŸ€” Why should you join us?

  • Do the most meaningful work of your career.

The green skills emergency is one of the most important and urgent issues of today - underpinning energy security stresses, the cost-of-living crisis and accelerating climate breakdown.

  • Work with a first-rate, mission-driven team.

Our co-founders have experiences drawn across tech, education and government, including inside 10 Downing Street, Teach First and Multiverse (the UK’s first EdTech unicorn).

  • Learn and gain responsibility more rapidly than you have before.

You’ll be challenged here, but also given plenty of opportunity to grow into those challenges. With so much to do, you’re bound to find areas that you can really leave your mark on and take significant responsibility in.

  • Deliver VC-scale impact and returns.

Our mission - to get 10 million more people into green jobs in 10 years - is one that has won us the support of top founders, CEOs, operators and VC investors, who know this can be a business which is both tremendously impactful and incredibly high-growth.

You can read a bit more about our investors in the coverage of our pre-seed round in TechCrunch.

  • Have fun with a team that knows how to build bonds.

We carve out time specifically to let off steam and build our interpersonal relationships, with team lunches, silly games together and monthly socials.

We’re operating hybrid (3 days a week in London together) because we think it’s important to invest in those relationships for small, early teams.

  • Break into a hypergrowth sector.

The green workforce is growing 3x more quickly than the tech workforce, and there are billions of pounds in investment going into the sector from both public and private sources.

πŸš€ How does applying work?

We’re still in the process of formalising things, but - indicatively - it might look like this:

  • Stage 1: 30 minute informal intro call
  • Stage 2: ~3-6 hour exercise
  • Stage 3: 60 minute panel interview
  • Stage 4: half a day with the whole Greenworkx team

We know this is relatively demanding! We’re putting a lot of time and care into it because this is a role that will work closely with our co-founders and we think that makes it extra important to be thoughtful about it.

πŸ“¨ We’d love to hear from you: tell us a bit about who you are and why you’re interested. (We’d love a video, but in writing works as well.)
