In the UK, we now have over 1.6m registered users, offering a range of products like the Freetrade Pension, a stocks and shares ISA, and our premium plan, Freetrade Plus.
The Freetrade mobile application provides the functionality for customers to access investment opportunities across the financial markets in the UK, US and EU. This is a crucial role to act as a subject matter expert for the Android mobile app platform. The role requires someone with previous experience and knowledge of delivering product value in an Android application that is used by hundreds of thousands of people across all different Android hardware.
The role requires someone with a strong understanding of the Android mobile platform, from frameworks, to best practices. They will work as part of a small mobile focused engineering team and collaborate with the wider engineering team to develop and ship functionality and value for customers.

You will:
  • Lead the development of new features and maintain existing features of the Freetrade Android app. Ensure high performance, quality, security and responsiveness of the application.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including design, product, and QA) to define, design, and ship new features.
  • Explore and implement new technologies to maximise development efficiency. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the mobile application's architecture.
  • Ensure the robustness of the application by writing tests and participating in code reviews. Maintain code quality, organisation, and automatisation.
  • Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs. Help maintain code quality, organisation, and automation.

You have:
  • Expert proficiency in Kotlin and Android mobile development
  • Deep understanding of Android frameworks development, both imperative and declarative approaches
  • Familiarity with RESTful and GraphQL APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.
  • Understanding of Google Android design principles and interface guidelines.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (such as Git).
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and build tools (CircleCI).
